Assessment and Customized Programs

You are unique - Your injury is unique -
Your rehabilitation should reflect that

In Alberta alone, there are over 10,000 new cases of brain injury every year. With each case, the variables are all different. How it was sustained. The severity of the injury. The expected recovery time. The possibilities of a new life. Each case is different - each case is distinctive.

At URSA, you are not treated as a statistic. You are not just another brain injury case to be added to the pile. You are a valuable, significant human being. You deserve all the help, all the resources, all the guidance - available. You deserve the opportunity to live your fullest potential, and you deserve to accomplish this in the least restrictive environment available.

Customization:

Client services at URSA are thoroughly customized, adapted to meet an individual's needs. This is accomplished either directly through URSA or in combination with URSA and additional community resources. Through the customization process, the objectives remain clear and defined: independence, a fulfilling and rewarding quality of life and participation and involvement in the community. You have unique and special gifts to offer the world and it's your right to explore them.

Client empowerment is our goal. We encourage clients and their families to get involved in the program, to participate fully in the development of the rehabilitation program and to offer feedback and evaluation regarding revisions or changes to the plan. Each schedule is distinct and unique to the individual. Your participation and feedback is vital to the success of your program.

Assessment:

Before a detailed rehabilitation program can be implemented, we needto ensure a full and thorough assessment is conducted. This is accomplishedthrough a combination of testing. Formal tests, daily observations, monitoringa client in their natural environment, consulting with the professionalteam regarding the individual's needs and abilities ... allcontribute to establishing a plan.

After a thorough assessment, the rehabilitations goals are designed. These goals are decided by the client, their support network and by the team. Goals are then implemented, reviewed and if necessary they are revised, every 8 weeks. Because everyone's needs and requirements vary, the assessments tools are selected to fit each individual's needs. They are continuously updated and repeated and consideration is given to the test scores and feedback from every individual.
